Opening for the Fabulous Thunderbirds & Bo Diddley

Hey ev'rybody have you heard......

I'm driving up to Thief River Falls this
morning (Fri, August 25, 2006).
I'm going to be playing harp with Bobby
Houle and the Storm Saturday, at the
7 Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, MN.
They open for the Fabulous Thunderbirds
and Bo Diddley. I'm hoping to meet
Kim Wilson and Bo Diddley, but we'll see.
As long as I play solid, I'll be happy.

Anyways it's a 6 hour drive and there's a
Friday bill there with Big Walter Smith,
John Lee Hooker Jr, and Walter Trout.
I got to see Walter Trout last week at
the Fargo Blues Fest and he's
monster on the guitar-worth seeing twice.
I still have to pack and hit the road by
noon today- so, later
If you're there, stop by and say hi.

Fargo Blues Festival - Opening Day

So out of the blue last tuesday, I get a call from Bobby Houle,
and he asks if I want to play Harp at the Fargo Blues Festival.
Now I haven't heard from Bobby in at least 6 months, and so
I did what any mature, sensible man would do when someone
who hasn't said word one to you in over half a year asks if you
if you can take off from work on Friday, and drive 250 miles
for no pay, with no rehearsal to play at a blues festival in
Fargo. I said "of course", threw my gear in the car Wednesday
night, and left Thursday night right after work. Got to Fargo
just after midnight, woke up Friday morning, and it was raining.

But, sometimes these things work out, and this was one of those
times. The band really came together by the third song - the
sound crew was very professional (truly amazing sound),
everyone was playing together, and could could feel the music
breathing on stage (like it does when it really comes together).
A lot of people really liked it, A lot of CD's were sold, and some
great musicians took note of this act, which is cool.

I've never played in a festival before, but if you get a chance,
do it. It's something you'll remember a long time.

One Festival Down, hopefully, many more to go.

Back at it

Aug 9, 2006

I'm back from Oshkosh, which was a really good time,
and the new CSS based home page is in place.
What a pain, but it really looks good - traffic to the page
has doubled since I published put it up too.

Go to http://glennbowen.biz and check it out.
I've been practicing the Tin Whistle a lot lately
for the Catfish Bones Act, but I'm now wanting to
go back into the studio again, so I'm looking for
a guitar player and bass palyer I can work with.

Other general notes: Casey the puppy is much better now,
and she sleeps alot, but she is 13 years old. I did get
my Glider rating to add on to my Single Engine Land
Pilots License. Took a couple hundred aviation photos
at Oshkosh, and I have a few thousand more on my
computer, so I'm trying to find time to update the
webpage for my aviation photos like I did for this
Blues Harp page - I'll get to it.

Anyways, check out the new home page, and
work on the CD is now going to resume after
this longer than intended summer break.
